AVON 39 THE WALK TO END BREAST CANCER

Houston, TX, April 18, 2016 – AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer kicks off in Houston April 23-24. The nationwide event series begins its 14th season with a steadfast commitment to help access to care and provide research into prevention and a cure for breast cancer. United by the theme #Powerof39, the event series emphasizes action, inspiration, and a fierce resolve to challenge the status quo by walking 39.3 miles in two days.

AVON 39 Houston – the first of seven walks across the country – celebrates the strength and philanthropic commitment of participants who raise $1,800 to accelerate breast cancer research; improve access to screening, diagnosis and treatment; and educate people about breast cancer. Since the series’ launch in 2003, more than 220,000 participants have raised nearly $590,000,000. Funds raised are distributed to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations.

Last year’s AVON 39 Houston drew more than 1,250 participants from 40 states and Washington D.C., including 145 breast cancer survivors who raised $2.7 million to advance access to breast health care. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and the Avon Foundation for Women have awarded more than $18 million to organizations in Texas since 2008, including the YWCA, University of Texas M.D. Anderson Center, Baylor College of Medicine, and University of Texas Medical Branch.
